This definitely wasn’t one of the episodes I re-watched over and over. This is no “Post-Modern Prometheus,” is what I’m saying.

“Deep Throat,” the second episode of The X-Files is an early attempt to show just how deep the government conspiracy to conceal the existence of extra-terrestrials really goes. Of course, at this point in the series, viewers have no idea what the conspiracy is, or what the role of the government is, or whether or not aliens are on earth.

Two important things happen in this episode. One, we meet one of Mulder’s first supporters in the conspiracy: a figured called Deep Throat.

Second, we meet Seth Green, who is not a recurring character. He eats a burger.

Wait! There’s a third thing! Mulder does have a giant cell phone by this episode, but Scully is left at the motel with nothing but a landline that goes dead. I know that she goes and rescues him from the air force base at the end, and I’m sure that’s what she was preoccupied with, but if I were her, I’d be bringing up the fact that MULDER STRANDED HER AT A MOTEL FOR 24 HOURS. And most of those hours were BEFORE he was captured by the military. Jerk.

By the way, this episode should begin the official count to see who rescues the other person more often: Mulder or Scully?

At this point in the series, the count is:

Scully Rescues Mulder: 1
Mulder Rescues Scully: 0
